Basement finishing FAQs

How much space do you need? How will you use the space? What features do you want to include?

Basements can feature many different options depending on how you intend to use the space: carpet, vinyl plan and tile are popular choices. Sound absorption, durability, maintenance, comfort and aesthetics are all important things to consider. There are also additional options to think about adding like dricore insulated subfloor or heated floor systems.

If you’re looking to deaden the sound in a particular room (make the noise less intense), standard fiberglass insulation in the partition walls can help. Some special insulations like "ROXUL Safe and Sound" can also be installed to help reduce noise.

In Massachusetts, all habitable spaces, such as bedrooms, living rooms, and kitchens, must be at least 7 feet high.

Non-habitable spaces, such as storage areas, utility rooms, and bathrooms, require a minimum height of 6.5 feet.

Remember that these are minimum requirements, and your town codes may have additional restrictions.

I had Almar remodel my basement. They run very professional and timely operations. Especially nice they use an app to track the progress and which allows me to see pictures of each step on a daily basis. I am very glad I found Almar; they did an excellent job!!
